Light Snow and Flurries This Eve…Thursday Update 2:20 PM

A good Thursday afternoon to you! It’s much colder this evening, as a surge of Arctic air moves into the deep south. Temperatures will continue to fall this evening, with many spots falling to the 30s by sunset. There’s a little light snow and flurries happening across northwest Alabama right now. This batch of light precip is moving southeast and will impact cities such as Vernon, Haleyville, Hamilton, Fayette, Jasper, Cullman, Birmingham and areas points northeast. There could be a few flakes as far south as Tuscaloosa County, but most of this activity will remain to our north. Even where the flakes to do fall, the ground is way too warm for snow to stick and the roads are too warm for any problems.

Look for some light snow and flakes to fall between now and midnight tonight. After that, the upper air trough will continue to move east of the area and takes any snow flurries with it. Temperatures will get very cold tonight, with lows between 22 and 26. The wind will put wind chill values in the teens for much of the night.
