Good Soaking Rain at Times Through Friday…Thursday Night Update 10:30 PM

We’ll continue to deal with a good soaking rain tonight and on Friday. While it won’t rain the entire time, pockets of light to moderate rain will bring rain totals upwards of ½ an inch. The heavier totals should happen along and north of Interstate 20/59. The radar image above shows where the rain is as of 10:30pm. The rain in Columbus and Starkville, MS will move into our west Alabama counties over the next couple of hours. I would not be surprised if you hear a rumble of thunder or see a flash of lightning tonight, but that will be very isolated.

Temperatures will remain mild and muggy tonight. We can expect some issues with fog as well late tonight and early tomorrow across much of the area. Rain will taper off from west to east Friday afternoon and evening. You can scroll down to the post below for your weekend forecast.

Showers Continue….Thursday Evening Forecast Update – 5:10 PM

A good Thursday afternoon to you! It’s been another warm day across our area, but unlike yesterday’s sunny and warm conditions, today’s weather has featured cloudy skies and showers. Rain totals have been very light so far. We’re seeing reports between 0.01 and 0.10” so far this afternoon. I expect storm totals to reach 0.25 to 0.50” between this morning and Friday evening. While temperatures are warm and dewpoints are high, I don’t expect any severe weather issues tonight or tomorrow. The best lift and shear will occur well north of Alabama.

The cold front should arrive sometime on Friday morning. Showers will still linger behind the front through Friday afternoon, but a decrease in showers and clouds will occur late Friday evening. Highs will top out in the lower 60s on Friday, with upper 50s on Saturday. The weekend isn’t looking all that bad. In-fact, temperatures will remain near to just above average on Saturday and Sunday. Highs will top out between 59 and 63 degrees. Lows will fall into the 32 to 35 degree range Saturday and Sunday night. We can expect a good supply of sun through Saturday, Sunday and early Monday. Clouds will increase late on Monday and on Tuesday.

Our next storm system will move into the area on Tuesday. This will bring a good soaking rain and some thunderstorms. Temperatures will fall back into the upper 50s for highs on Wednesday.

Some Light Showers Today, More Rain Tonight/Friday… Thursday Update 10:40 AM

We’ve got a few showers ahead of schedule this morning. At this point, all light showers in our area are along and northwest of Interstate 20/59. These showers will continue to move east northeast through the day and will spread across the state through this afternoon. While the showers are very light, many spots will get a little light rain at times through this evening. More organized rain will move in tonight and early on Friday.

Temperatures will remain above average today. Skies will remain mostly cloudy through this evening, but if you get a little sun, temperatures will easily reach the lower 70s. Cooler air arrives on Friday and Saturday, with highs back in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
