Friday Afternoon Forecast Discussion – 3:00 PM

A good Friday to you! Our forecast remains nice through half of the weekend, with mostly sunny skies and dry conditions. Highs will top out in the lower to middle 80s again today and on Saturday. Moisture will gradually increase over the weekend, and storms become likely Sunday night and Monday morning.

Tonight will be the last cool night for the next several nights, as lows reach the middle to upper 40s. An increase in moisture will drive our overnight lows into the 50s Sunday morning and middle 60s Monday morning. As a cold front works in from the northwest on Sunday, clouds will drastically increase and storms will move in late in the day. Most forecast models bring the best shot of rain in here late Sunday night and early Monday morning. Some storms could become strong to severe as instability and wind shear will be decent. The front will not make it through central Alabama, but it will stall just north of us. This means moisture will continue to increase through early next week. Lows will remain in the middle 60s, with highs warming into the middle 80s.

A strong cold front looks to make it into central Alabama early on Thursday. This will bring some storms and a cooler airmass. Models are still all over the board on the strength of this front and amount of cold air, so we’ll have to fine-tune the long range forecast as we get through the weekend.
