Saturday Evening Weather Update – 8:45 PM

A good Saturday to you! Forecasting a complex of storms this time of the year isn’t easy, and today was the prime example. These things love to follow the outer edge of a ridge, so that put us in a prime spot to get a round of thunderstorms. The ridge was a little slower moving in than expected, so that allowed for the storms to make it this far south. This ridge will basically cap anything from developing over the next few days, so don’t get use to the rain-cooled air. It was nice while it lasted, but the heat is about to really get rough.

Some patchy fog can be expected tonight, with a low in the lower 70s. Once the sun rises tomorrow morning, we’ll see a rapid warm-up in temperatures; in-fact, temperatures will top 90 degrees by 11 a.m. and end up near 98 during the mid afternoon hours. When we factor in moisture, the heat index will top out near 107. If you’re going to be outdoors, stay well hydrated. In heat like this, it don’t take long to get dehydrated. As the ridge continues to build into the southeast, our temperatures will continue very hot. Highs could reach 100 on Monday, with a heat index of 108. Mostly sunny skies and rain-free weather can be expected. Only a stray thunderstorm is in the forecast through next weekend. Highs continue in the upper 90s, with lows in the lower 70s.

We’re keeping an eye on a tropical wave in the Caribbean. There is some chance that this feature will end up in the Gulf of Mexico and could develop into a named storm. As of now, conditions are not favorable for tropical development. If anything changes, we’ll quickly let you know about it. Have a great day!
