Wednesday Afternoon Weather Update – 3:30 PM

Click Here For Larger ViewA good Wednesday to you! Our local weather has turned hot this afternoon, with many of us in the lower 90s. If you factor in the moisture, it feels more like 100 degrees. The hot weather will continue over the next 5 to 7 days, with heat index values over 100 at times.

Most of the thunderstorm action today has stayed west of central Alabama. Yesterday’s storms cooled us off nicely, but the lack of storms today is keeping us hot. Expect temperatures to continue in the lower 90s over the next few hours, but temperatures will gradually cool into the lower 70s after midnight. A stray storm is possible early, but rain chances are looking low at this point. A cold front tries to make it into central Alabama on Thursday and Friday but stalls out before reaching us. This will provide enough lift to get a few showers and thunderstorms developing in our area. Humidity will continue to be high through the weekend.

A ridge builds in over the weekend, and our weather gets hot and dry. Highs top out in the middle to upper 90s, with heat index values near or over 100 degrees. A stray afternoon storm or two is possible over the weekend, but don’t expect a washout. A similar pattern continues into early next week, with a stray afternoon storm in the forecast. Otherwise, our forecast remains hot and mostly dry. Be sure to join Robert today at 4 PM for First at Four, and I’ll be on tonight at 5, 6 and 10 PM for more weather on WVUA-TV. Have a great day!
