Sunday Evening Weather Update – 8:15 PM

A good Sunday to you! Other than a few showers and storms, many of us stayed dry today. While the weather was mostly dry across central Alabama, temperatures were rather hot. At one point this afternoon, the heat index value in Tuscaloosa was approaching 100 degrees. As a cold front works through the state tonight, we’ll see a big drop in our humidity tomorrow and Tuesday.

Temperatures will fall into the middle 60s tonight, with a northwest breeze. Skies will become mostly clear and storms will die out by 10 pm. Monday will be a bright day, with mostly sunny skies. Humidity will be much lower, but temperatures still remain hot. The north breeze and lower humidity will make it feel a little better. Monday’s high will top out in the lower 90s. A warm front lifts through the state on Tuesday, which will bring the humidity back. This will be noticed by Wednesday. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will reach the middle 90s. As moisture increases, so does our rain chance. Rain chances remain at or below 30% through the weekend. If you are lucky enough to see a shower, expect temperatures to cool off several degrees.

A strong summer ridge builds in by Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We can expect temperatures to approach 97 to 98 degrees. A stray afternoon shower or storm is possible, but don’t expect much rain at all. With lots of moisture in the atmosphere and temperatures in the upper 90s, heat index values will easily top 100 degrees. If you are going to be outdoors over the weekend, be sure to drink plenty of fluids and keep well hydrated.

Be sure to join me tonight on WVUA-TV at 10 PM for more on your forecast. Have a great day!
