Saturday Evening Weather Update – 8:35 PM

A good Saturday to you! Storms became widespread this afternoon, with a batch of strong thunderstorms working across central Alabama. An upper level low is keeping our weather very unsettled. Much like the past several days, morning sunshine has led to afternoon storms. We can expect this pattern to continue through Tuesday; in-fact, rain chances are looking very high tomorrow and on Monday. With any storms that develop, lightning will be the main issue. If you are out on a lake or river, keep an eye to the sky. If you hear thunder, don’t take a chance and go indoors. The good news is that most of the storms will pass by quickly.

Our upper level low begins to weaken on Tuesday and Wednesday. We’ll gradually see a decrease in showers and storms by the middle of next week. A small chance of afternoon storms still exists for Wednesday, but rain chances are around 30%.

A cold front tries to make it into Alabama on Friday. As the front gets closer, we’ll deal with another chance of thunderstorms. It’s hard to get a cold front through Alabama this time of the year, so rain chances may stick around through the weekend. As of now, it looks like mainly afternoon storms. Be sure to join me tonight at 10 PM for more weather on WVUA-TV. Have a great Saturday!
