Saturday Afternoon Weather Update – 3:51 PM

It’s a new day but the weather. We’ve dealt with some very heavy amounts of rainfall over the past week or so. Many Alabama communities have dealt with flooding rains for days. As of this afternoon, there is a flash flood watch in place for all of the WVUA-TV coverage area until Midnight tonight. There are also several flash flood warnings over portions of the state. Some communities have picked up more than 5 inches of rain over the past several days. Look for periods of showers and storms to continue through this evening and into the overnight hours. It’s not going to rain the entire time, but rain could fall at about anytime. If you have plans outdoors this evening, take the rain gear. The upper-air low and combined surface low is slowly moving out. It will still influence our weather through Tuesday, with lots of rain. With a good deal of clouds and rain, high temperatures will stay in the middle 80s.

As our rain-maker finally moves out on Tuesday, our attention turns to the west. A deep upper-level low will dive southward on Tuesday and Wednesday. As this feature stalls out to our west, more storms could move into central Alabama. The big question of this system is the eastward progression. Our data is having a tough time with it, so we’re going to keep a close eye on it over the next few days. Some models try to move it into the southwestern US, while other models bring it closer us. If it stays on a more westward track, then our rainfall won’t be as widespread, and we’ll finally get a break in the rainy weather. We’ll have much more right here on our blog page over the next few days. You can also check us out on live television tonight at 10 PM.

The tropics aren’t very active at this time, but there are a few areas that we are keeping a close eye on. If anything develops, we’ll have the full details on our blog.
