Sunday Afternoon Weather Update – 2:45 PM

It has been a hot day across all of Alabama today, with temperatures in the lower to middle 90s. Rather hot for the folks in Tuscaloosa for Fan Day and graduation this weekend. The good news is that conditions will be changing over the next few days.

Several showers and storms are moving northward across our western counties this afternoon, with some rather strong storms over Sumter County. It looks like most of the rain will stay west of interstate 65 this evening. If you happen to get a storm in your neighborhood, rainfall could be heavy, with a lot of lightning. Make sure you play it safe and move indoors if a storm approaches. This time of the year, storms can have a lot of lightning. For the rest of the evening, temperatures will begin to cool off into the 80s around sunset, with showers and storms going to bed. Rain chances will become non-existent after midnight tonight. Rain chances will become pretty good over the next few days, with showers and storms during the afternoon hours. The ridge will be loosening it’s grip across Alabama, which will allow for a disturbance to move in. This upper-air disturbance will serve as a lifting mechanism for more storms by Tuesday and Wednesday; you can expect a 40 – 50% chance of rain. With more clouds around, temperatures will back down a few degrees; we’ll have highs near 90 degrees.

Rain chances will continue rather impressive for this time of the year for Thursday through Sunday, with a 30 – 40% chance of any one spot picking up rain each afternoon. As long as we continue to see some rain in the area, that will keep temperatures in check.

The Dog Days of Summer:We’re entering the dog days of summer and we’re asking viewers to send in pictures of their dogs beating the heat. Last year we had so much fun with this and we want to do it again. We will begin showing pictures during our weather segments on Monday. Please send your pictures to:
