Forecast Discussion Update 3:27 PM

The clouds are very welcomed on days like today. Temperatures have been on the hot and steamy side however, it hasn’t felt quite as brutal as yesterday. At the time of this update there where some showers over portions of Pickens and Tuscaloosa County. The rain has been quite scattered in nature today and I’m expecting very little rain overnight. Tonight will be slightly cooler, with lows near 70 degrees.

Tomorrow an upper air ridge will begin to build over Alabama. This is going to set the stage for hot August weather. Expect highs in the middle to upper 90s for tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday. Each day will be mostly sunny and the heat index will range between 100 and 105 degrees. A stray shower or thunderstorm can’t be ruled out for far southern sections of our coverage area.

The ridge of high pressure will remain dominant through Monday and Tuesday of next week. We will have a slightly better chance for a shower or storm in the late afternoon and early evening hours. Temperatures during the day will remain quite hot and at night you can expect rather seasonable temperatures for this time of year. We will have more updates first at four, and at five, six, and ten!

The Dog Days of Summer: We’re entering the dog days of summer and we’re asking viewers to send in pictures of their dogs beating the heat. Last year we had so much fun with this and we want to do it again. We will begin showing pictures during our weather segments on Monday. Please send your pictures to: wxpics@wvuatv.com
