Wednesday Afternoon Weather Discussion-3:20 PM

There has been a lot of thunderstorm activity over northern Alabama today. While our area has been under the influence of high pressure, a complex of storms worked around the northern edge of the ridge. Some thundershowers have managed to popup over northern and eastern sections of Tuscaloosa County. Some activity will continue this evening over portions of Bibb County south into Perry and Chilton Counties, mainly eastern sections of the area.

It is feeling very hot our there today! The latest temperature at the time of this update in Tuscaloosa was 92 degrees and the heat index was a sizzling 98. Take it extra easy out there this afternoon and during the early evening hours. We will have a very warm and humid night, with a partly cloudy sky. Tomorrow will be another partly to mostly cloudy day, with a passing shower or thunderstorm. The high pressure ridge overhead will begin to weaken a bit as a surface boundary approaches from the north on Friday. As temperatures rise on Friday and Saturday, we will have increasing clouds with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms may pulse to the severe level, with high winds, lightning, and hail.

It’s going to remain quite steamy out there on Sunday and Monday. Each day will be partly cloudy, hot, and humid, with the chance for thunderstorm during the afternoon and evening hours. The upper air ridge will be tightening its grip again early next week. According to newer data, the high pressure ridge will cover much of the Nations midsection by next Wednesday including portions of the southeast. This will set the stage for more very hot and humid conditions, with lots of sunshine. Be sure to tune in tonight for the latest.
