Wednesday Afternoon Update 3:54 PM

Arctic air is on the move and we’re getting set to experience the coldest weather in six years! The temperatures over Minnesota are in the negative range, with teens currently as far south as Kansas City. Wind Chill values in places like Minot, ND and Hallock, MN have dropped to negative 35 degrees. We will feel this arctic air mass tomorrow, with 30 degree temperatures during the day. A harsh north wind will make for a raw day, with wind chill values dropping to negative 1 at times. Make sure everything is properly winterized and make sure family, friends, and neighbors have a warm shelter. Also, make sure the pets have a warm shelter through tomorrow night. A hard freeze warning will likely be issued for tomorrow night. Lows will be near 11 degrees Friday morning.

We will struggle to reach freezing for a high temperature on Friday. The good thing is that winds won’t be quite as brutal, with a sunny sky overhead. A strong 1045 MB cold core high will be centered near Memphis early Friday. This feature will remain over the region Friday night, with lows dropping into the low teens once again. Our temperatures will recover into the middle 40s on Saturday. On Sunday we will approach the 50 degree mark as another cold front shifts into the area. This front will bring a small chance of showers on Sunday followed by drying on Monday. Temperatures early next week will return to the seasonal mark for this time of year.
