Friday Afternoon Discussion Update 4:20 PM

Good Afternoon! I’m expecting the deep freeze to set in across West and Central Alabama tonight. Don’t forget about the 4 P’s; pipes, pets, plants, and people. This is pipe bursting type cold and make sure you have exposed pipes well insulated. We will drop below freezing during the early evening hours tonight and we will rise above freezing around the 9:00 a.m. timeframe tomorrow morning. Our low tonight will be near 22 degrees. The sky will be clear tonight, and will have a mostly sunny sky tomorrow. Tomorrow night we will have another hard freeze, with lows near 25 degrees. A second surge of cold air will drop highs back into the 40s on Sunday, with a chilly north wind.

We will enjoy a decent temperature recovery on Monday as an area of low pressure shifts into the southern Plains. Overrunning moisture will set the stage for rain and rising temperatures on Tuesday. There may be a thunderstorm late Tuesday, although the better chance for thunderstorms will arrive Tuesday night and early Wednesday as the low pressure system moves across Alabama. Some storms to the south may be on the strong side. Things get a bit more complex late Wednesday as the upper air component of this storm system swings across the region. It appears we will have another round of rain late Wednesday and into the day on Thursday. There is a chance some thunderstorms could develop due to the very cold air aloft associated with this feature. As for the cold air at the surface, we will start feeling the big chill again by Friday, with highs only in the middle 40s.

If you’re traveling to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game, there won’t be any weather related issues. Outside of the Georgia Dome, highs will be near 52 with a sunny sky for an event you may be attending.
