Sunday Afternoon Weather Discussion; Posted at 4:13 p.m.

More chilly weather was felt today, with temperatures only reaching the lower 50s in Tuscaloosa; in-fact, temperatures stayed in the 40s all day for places like Birmingham, Anniston, and Muscle Shoals. Even chilly weather was felt as far south as the Alabama gulf coast. Tonight, we are heading for a light freeze; with temperatures close to 30 degrees. Widespread frost will be around tonight, but that will quickly melt after sunrise; highs tomorrow will warm nicely into the lower 60s. Don’t get use to the warm afternoon, because another cold front is on the way.

With a dry air mass in place, don’t expect any rain out of our next front. The cold front will push through the state late Monday night, putting our highs back into the middle and lower 50s on Tuesday. We will continue to see lots of sunshine in the forecast. As high pressure settles in Tuesday night, we’ll have lows in the upper 20s. Expect lots of frost around, but another gradual warm up will take place by Wednesday and Thursday, as highs will be back to around 60 degrees. We’ll begin to see a few clouds stream in ahead of our next front that is due in here late on Friday. The models really conflict with that system, so be sure to stay tuned. Some data hint at a good chance of rain with really cold weather in here by Saturday, and other date suggest dry and fairly cool temperatures. I have a small chance for rain in the forecast on Friday and Saturday, but that could change. Be sure to join us tonight at 10 p.m. for WVUA News at 10. I’ll have the complete details on your forecast. Have a great Sunday!
