Sunday Afternoon Weather Discussion; Posted at 5:40 p.m.

More nice weather was certainly around today, as highs topped out at 77 degrees at the Tuscaloosa Airport. The good news is that the nice weather we dealt with today will be around over the next few days. Tonight will be rather chilly, as lows will get into the lower 40s. Neighborhoods north of Tuscaloosa may get into the upper 30s by daybreak.

On Monday, highs will reach the upper 70s. Some backyard thermometers may actually reach 80 degrees. We will see mostly sunny skies over west Alabama, but a few more clouds can be expected over the eastern half of the state. An upper-air disturbance is moving along the gulf coast, but with really dry air in pace, don’t expect any rain out of this. A surface low will develop over north Florida and south Georgia tomorrow; this will help to spread in a few clouds, but as the system quickly lifts out of here, we will see a return to sunny skies on Tuesday. This will be perfect for the presidential election on Tuesday. If you will be out voting, the good news is that there will be no rain to worry about, and warm temperatures after 10 a.m.

A south flow will develop later on Wednesday, and we’ll see a return of some gulf moisture on Thursday. With more moisture, our overnight temperatures will warm as well. Lows on Thursday and Friday mornings will be in the middle to upper 50s. Increasing clouds on Thursday will eventually give way to late afternoon showers. As a cold front works in from the northwest on Friday, we’ll see a better coverage of showers and thunderstorms; we will also see a good deal of clouds around on Friday. It is now the secondary severe weather season, so we will be watching for future threats. The greater dynamics will be well north of Alabama with this system, so we don’t expect any severe weather. If things change, we’ll let you know about it.

Once the front moves through late on Friday, we’ll see a end to the rain and sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will be slightly cooler by the weekend; highs will be in the upper 60s, with a good deal of sunshine.
