Thursday Afternoon Update: 3:45 p.m.

A thunderstorm has been dumping lots of rain over southern Sumter and northern Marengo Counties, mainly along highway 80. The Bellamy and Coatopa communities seem to be the wettest spots and the rain should continue over the next hour. The northern extent of the rain is in the City of Eutaw and more rain extends southeast of this line into Wilcox County. This rain is developing along a stationary front parked right over Central Alabama. This front will aid in triggering more scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Also, it has felt quite humid and dewpoints are still rather high. This will serve as another nice ingredient to help spark rain.

I’m not expecting any big changes over the next few days, with more hot and humid conditions expected. There will be several ingredients in place to help spark afternoon thunderstorms. We will be on the eastern edge of a ridge and a weak boundary will linger over the state. This will help to spark a good coverage of afternoon storms for the weekend. Plus, temperatures will be soaring into the middle 90s. The storms will dissipate at night, with lows in the 70s. Even though rain is expected, there will be many areas that measure little rain. Look for dry starts to each day, with the threat for wet weather arriving after 1:00 p.m. Have a great day and be sure to tune in tonight for more details!
