Sunday Afternoon Weather Discussion

I hope your Sunday has been good! The big story today has been the rain across the area. Places north of Tuscaloosa have dealt with rain nearly all day, with some impressive rainfall totals there. Tuscaloosa has seen a good dose of rain as well; most of it moved in during the afternoon hours. In-fact, as I type this discussion, rain is falling across much of the area, which is some great news! The rain will stick around for the next couple of days, but it won’t rain non-stop. The rain we have seen today is about to move out of the area. But, with a very warm and moist air mass moving in, you can expect a shower at about any time tonight and tomorrow. The big storms will come on Super Tuesday, but we can’t rule out some strong storms Monday afternoon as well. On Tuesday, we will get a storm system in here, which will give us a good round of rain and storms. As low pressure deepens to our west, a surface front will move in here Tuesday night. With lots of instability around, with moisture and heat, we are expecting a line of intense storms to march across the viewing area sometime between 2 p.m. on Tuesday and midnight. There is a threat that some discrete super cell thunderstorms could develop ahead of the main line; this is one thing we will have to watch very closely! The main threat with this is from large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes. There will be a lot of people out voting for the primary elections on Tuesday. It looks like early in the day will be the best time to head out to vote; most of the action shouldn’t develop until the afternoon hours. Be sure to keep it right here with WVUA as we fine tune the exact timing of this event. If any severe weather develops, we will be sure to let you know about it. A good way to stay informed is to keep an eye on our blog page; we will post frequent weather updates on here.

We get a snap back into winter on Wednesday, with highs in the lower 50s. We will likely deal with lot of clouds early in the day, but sunshine will make a return by the late afternoon hours. The cooler weather doesn’t last long at all, with highs returning into the lower 60s by the weekend. Friday and Saturday calls for lots of sunshine; daytime highs will approach 60 in many locations. Be sure to join us tonight at 10 p.m. for the latest look at your forecast. Have a great day!
