Sunday Afternoon Weather Discussion

I hope you are having a great Sunday! Today, the weather was perfect for being outdoors. I took advantage of this nice weather and spent most of the day outside. While the weather is nice now, things are about to change in a hurry. As expected, a line of showers and thunderstorms are forming just ahead of the cold front over western Mississippi. This will push in here later tonight. By early tomorrow morning, things will be much different, with cold temperatures and a brisk north wind in place. Despite lots of sunshine, it will feel very chilly, with highs in the 50s. Tomorrow night will call for a light freeze, with lows near 30 degrees; I wouldn’t be surprised to see some places get down into the upper 20s.

If you are going to be out for all of the festivities going on tonight and Tuesday night, it will be cold, so be sure to bundle up. The good news is that it will be dry for the West Alabama Christmas Parade in downtown Tuscaloosa tonight and Dickens Downtown in downtown Northport Tuesday night.

On Tuesday, temperatures will make a nice recovery after a cold start. Highs will be in the lower 60s, with lots of sunshine. This nice weather will continue into Wednesday. Another front works through here on Thursday morning. Since moisture will be limited, the chance of seeing any rain out of this system will be very small; highs will be in the upper 50s, with the breezy, north wind back. Our friends in Gatlinburg, TN may see some snow flurries out of this system.

As for next weekend, there is a lot of confusion in our guidance. Some models are trying to develop a low just to our north, with a trailing front moving through Friday night or Saturday morning. Others models paint a dry setup for next weekend. Be sure to stay tuned, Chief Meteorologist Wes Wyatt will be back in this week for full details on our up-coming system and much more. I hope you have a great week and stay safe!
