Tuesday Afternoon Forecast Update

Good Afternoon! Rain is now pushing into Alabama as moisture is overrunning the state. The rain will start off rather light, but heavier showers will be possible as we go through the late afternoon and early evening hours. There will also be enough elevated instability to help spark a few thunderstorms later on. Therefore, I’ve included periods of rain with imbedded thunder in the forecast for the rest of today and this evening.

The wet weather will be possible through the morning hours tomorrow as a cold front drops in and helps trigger more activity. Look for a gusty south wind, becoming westerly by tomorrow afternoon. I do think after the rain departs we will catch some sunshine tomorrow afternoon. Tonight we will bottom out in the 50s, with highs in the middle 70s tomorrow afternoon.

Sunshine will return on Thursday, with a quick warm-up taking place. Highs will be in the upper 70s, with a warm southerly breeze. Friday will be similar with high temperatures reaching the middle to upper 80s. Another powerhouse storm system will take shape to the west of us and this system will send a cold front into the state on Saturday. This will bring a round of rain and thunderstorms and today I still can’t rule out the possibility of some severe weather this weekend.

I believe I spoke to soon when I said, “we should be able to say goodbye to the cold weather.” Now it appears another amplified trough will allow some really cold air to spill into the state on Sunday. Some of the data today suggests highs will struggle to break into the low 60s, with lows near 40-degrees Sunday night. All in all, this sure has been a wild spring! Be sure to join us tonight for more details.
