Monday Forecast Discussion Update

December has certainly brought us a big chill! Cold weather is the story and the door to Canada will stay wide open this week. Last night another blast of cold air entered the state and you can notice the difference today. Temperatures will only reach the middle 40s and with a cold north wind in place, it will feel much colder at times. The winds will diminish tonight and with a clear sky overhead, be ready for a hard freeze. Lows across the entire area will be near 20-degrees. Make sure exposed pipes are well protected!

Also, tonight the annual West Alabama Christmas Parade will be taking place in Tuscaloosa. I’ve either watched this parade or been a part of it, since the event started. What’s interesting to me is that every time the parade has taken place, I recall it being very cold. If I get some spare time later today I might look at some past weather data. The tree lighting is at 5:15 p.m. and the actual parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Bundle up!!

The sky will be sunny tomorrow and the daytime temperatures won’t be quite as brutal. Highs for tomorrow will be in the 50s; however, look for more freezing temperatures tomorrow night. Another blast of cold air will be entering the area late Wednesday night as a cold front moves through. A cold wind will be in place late Wednesday and into Thursday. Highs on Thursday will be staying in the 40s, with lows Thursday night near 20-degrees.

Temperatures will finally start making a decent recovery over the weekend. We will continue to have lots of sunshine for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. More clouds will start entering the area late in the weekend, with a shower possible by the Tuesday/Wednesday time frame of next week.
