Sunny for Now… More Changes Ahead… Sunday Afternoon Forecast Discussion – 2:45pm Update
January 6, 2013 Leave a comment
Good Sunday afternoon! It’s nice to see the sun again today, as all of west and central Alabama is in the clear now. While were in full sunshine as of 2:45pm in our part of Alabama, extreme south Alabama is still in thick clouds. Skies will clear for the Mobile to Dothan areas a little later this afternoon. The upper air disturbance that brought the clouds and rain yesterday is now well east of Alabama. A surface high is moving in now, which is bringing the sunny weather. It feels nice this afternoon in the sun, but big changes are likely after sunset. Temperatures will drop like a rock, with most spots in the upper 30s by 10pm and middle to upper 20s by sunrise.
Monday’s weather is looking nice and sunny, with a high in the upper 50s. Winds will remain pretty light to calm on Monday and Tuesday. Clouds will gradually increase late on Tuesday, ahead of a slow moving storm system to the west of Alabama. Clouds will increase fast by Tuesday evening and night, with highs in the upper 50s to around 60. A warm front will provide lift across Alabama Tuesday night and on Wednesday. As the warm front gets close to our area on Wednesday, showers and a few thunderstorms will develop. It will not rain all day on Wednesday, but there’s a good chance of rain at times.
Temperatures will warm nicely on Wednesday, as the warm front moves north through our area. Expect a little sun at times, with highs in the upper 60s. Some spots could reach 70 on Wednesday. Lows will warm into the 50s Wednesday night. Scattered showers and storms are possible at any point on Thursday and Friday, as a cold front and upper air trough moves in from the west. The trough will really die out as it moves east, so I don’t expect any major severe weather issues. The upper air support and wind shear is lacking with this system. Don’t expect rain all day or night on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, but it will rain at times. Keep the rain gear handy. We will remain in the warm sector through Saturday, with highs in the 70s on Thursday through Saturday. The sun will peak out from time to time these days as well.
If you’re heading to the BCS National Championship Game in Miami on Monday, look for temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s during the day, with only a small risk of a passing shower or storm. The chance of rain there is only at 20%. Most isolated showers should be gone to bed by game-time during the evening. Temperatures will fall into the middle 70s by kickoff at 7:30pm.
