Mild Weekend…Storms on Monday… – Friday Afternoon Forecast Update 4:25 pm

A good Friday afternoon to you! After a thick deck of clouds and mild  December weather, conditions are about to make a big change to cold air early next week. If you have a weekend event planned, the weather is looking pretty nice. The big changes will take place after the weekend.

A south wind is allowing warm and moist air to stream north and move into all of west and central Alabama. While temperatures are above normal, many spots stayed in the 60s due to a thick deck of clouds. A couple of towns reached the 70 degree mark, but temperatures like that were confined to areas south of I-20. Look for a slow drop in temperatures this evening and tonight. We’ll reach the lower 60s at 7 pm and upper 50s after 10 pm. The slow drop in temperatures is due to a mostly cloudy sky and high dewpoints.

Saturday and Sunday is looking nice for the most part. Clouds will hang across our area tough at times over the weekend, but I expect skies to become partly sunny both days. Highs will reach the lower 70s both Saturday and Sunday. Look for temperatures at night to reach the lower  or middle 50s. The risk of rain is low over the weekend, but a quick shower can’t be ruled out both day.

Rain will move in ahead of a sharp upper air trough and cold front. Look for a good chance of rain starting Monday morning and lastning through Monday evening. Most spots across west and central Alabama will pick up between 0.50″ and 1 inch.

Temperatures will drop fast Monday evening and Monday night, with lows in the lower 30s. Highs will struggle to reach the lower 50s on Tuesday, with skies remaining partly cloudy. We’ll warm a tad on Wednesday, but temperatures will remain cold. Highs will reach the upper 50s on Wednesday. A second shortwave trough will rotate around the base of the trough on Wednesday or early Thursday. That will spread some clouds in here, but the risk of rain looks very low at this point.

Another fast moving storm system is set to arrive next Friday night or on Saturday. This will bring more rain our way.
