Dusty Today… Nice Weekend – 4pm Friday Update
October 19, 2012 Leave a comment
Good Friday afternoon to you! We’ve had a dust plume move into west and central Alabama this afternoon, as a strong west wind pushes a layer of dust into Alabama from Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. This is what’s left of the big dust storm that took over the Plains yesterday. Sure, it’s not a big deal in Alabama like it was out west, but it’s interesting to see the brown, hazy sky.
If you have plans to the local high school football games tonight, look for a rapid cool down after sunset. We can expect clear skies and calmer winds. The gusty winds now will gradually become calm after sunset. Look for a temperature near 60 at 7pm and near 50 at 10pm. You may need the blanket and hot chocolate at the local games tonight; especially after halftime. Lows will reach the lower 40s across all of west and central Alabama late tonight.
The weekend forecast is looking nice, with mild days and cold nights. Skies will remain clear on Saturday and Sunday, as highs warm into the lower 70s on Saturday and upper 70s on Sunday. Winds will remain pretty calm over the weekend. Look for a gradual warming trend late in the weekend and early next week. The trough will gradually lift east, and a zonal flow will take over the southeast on Monday and Tuesday. This means a pretty average forecast will take over, with highs between 78 and 80 on Monday through next Thursday. Lows will warm into the lower 50s at night.
Alabama takes on Tennessee in Knoxville at Neyland Stadium. The game kicks off at 6pm. Look for a temperature near 50 at kickoff, under a clear sky. Temperatures will fall into the low 50s to end the game. There is no risk of rain at the Bama game.
