Nice Days, Cool Nights… Thursday Afternoon Forecast Discussion – 4:15pm
October 18, 2012 Leave a comment
Good Thursday afternoon! After a nice rain event lastnight, we’ve dried out nicely today. Much of the area picked up some really nice rain totals lastnight.
I recorded 1.55″ at my house in Northport
Ronald Hughes reports 1.37″ in Coker (west Tuscaloosa Co)
Michael Stonebroke repots 0.91″ in Sylacauga
Melissa McAteer reports 1.72″ in Reform (east Pickens Co)
Nathan Kraemer reports 1.25″ in Hayden (Blount Co)
Tuscaloosa Airport: 0.91″
Most of west and central Alabama picked up between a 1/2 inch and 1 inch. The rain is gone and sunshine made a return in full force today. With sunny skies present now, conditions feel very nice outside at this hour. Temperatures reached the middle to upper 70s along and south of I-20/59 this afternoon and lower 70s north of the Interstate. With very dry air, clear skies and winds becoming calm this evening, look for temperatures to drop like a rock this evening and tonight. Many spots will reach the low 60s at 7pm, and then low 50s at 10pm. If you have plans outdoors this evening or tonight, you may need the jacket.
Lows will reach the lower 40s tonight, under a clear sky. Look for a sunny sky on Friday, with a breezy west wind developing during the day; winds could gust to 25mph at times. We’ll remain dry through the rest of the week and into the weekend, with no risk of rain. Skies will remain sunny to mostly sunny through Sunday and Monday of next week. The trough across the east will gradually move east and out of our area. As that happens, temperatures will gradually modify a bit late in the weekend and early next week. Between now and Sunday, look for nice days and cold nights. We’ll continue to deal with 40s at night through Sunday morning.
Highs will reach the 80 degree mark across much of west and central Alabama on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Overnight lows will gradually modify into the lower 50s at night by early next week. There is no chance of rain through Thursday of next week; skies will remain mostly sunny.
Alabama takes on Tennessee in Knoxville Saturday night. If you have plans to Neyland Stadium, look for chilly gameday conditions. Temperatures will quickly fall into the upper 50s at the 6pm kickoff and low to middle 50s during the game. Skies will remain clear through the game, with no issues with rain this weekend.
