Lots of Rain, Some Lightning… Forecast Thoughts… 2:25am Thursday

Good Thursday morning! We’ve been watching the radar a while tonight, and so far so good (as of 2:30am). Much of west and central Alabama is or has picked up some nice rain amounts, but there have been no severe weather issues around here. Instability just never made it into Alabama for any issues. While the dynamics and shear have been impressive, you’ve got to have instability for severe weather.
That being said, we’re still watching our southwestern Counties such as Sumter and Marengo. There is a low end chance of a severe storm or quick spin-up tornado there through 4am. After 4am, our entire west and central Alabama area will be out of the gun for any severe weather threat.
Areas north of HWY 80 or north of Demopolis will deal with nothing more than rain and some lightning. Even south of Demopolis, the threat of anything severe is very low through 4am… Most spots will pick up around 1/2 an inch of rain through daybreak. The back edge of the rain should be moving out of east Alabama by the time the sun comes up.
