Nice Weather Continues…. Warmer Weather Ahead… Tuesday Evening Forecast Discussion – 5:45pm
October 9, 2012 Leave a comment
Good Tuesday Afternoon to you! After a cold start to the day, temperatures have really warmed nicely this afternoon. Most spots started off the day in the upper 30s to lower 40s, but afternoon temperatures range in the lower 70s. The return of sunny weather has really made for a pleasant afternoon. If you have plans outdoors tonight, look for rather chilly temperatures, with lows in the upper 40s. Skies will also remain clear tonight, so there’s no worry of rain.
The deep eastern US trough is starting to lift out of the southeast. This will allow for a nice warming trend for our Wednesday, as most spots warm into the upper 70s to lower 80s. We can expect a mostly sunny sky on Wednesday, but some high level clouds will move in during the afternoon. A shortwave trough will pass north of Alabama, and we can expect the general longwave trough across the east to deepen just a touch. This means a shot of cooler air will make a return on Thursday. Look for a developing northwest breeze tomorrow afternoon. I don’t expect any rain ahead of the front due to limited surface moisture. Temperatures will fall into the middle 40s Wednesday night. Thursday won’t feature a cold day by any means, but it will be a touch cooler. Highs will drop into the low or mid 70s on Thursday.
The entire trough will move out quickly and ridging will build in on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This means a drastic warming trend will take over these days, with highs in the low 80s on Friday – Sunday. Lows will modify as well, with many spots reaching the 50s both Friday and Saturday mornings. Skies will remain mostly sunny through the weekend, with no issues with rain through the weekend plans. A weakening cold front is set to arrive on Monday. This could bring a band of showers or thunderstorms sometime on Monday, but I don’t see any severe weather issues or any heavy rain.
I know there are lots of outdoor events happening this week and into the weekend, so I’ve made a special forecast for some below…
Are you making plans for the Moundville Native American Festival this week? The forecast is looking really nice, with no risk of rain and ample sunshine. It will be cool at night, but mild during the day. Above is the forecast for that event. Look for a high near 80 on Wednesday, with cooling temperatures Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The Moundville area will warm back into the 80s on Friday and Saturday, with no risk of rain for the event. Skies will also remain sunny to mostly sunny. The Festival begins on Wednesday and ends on Saturday.
If you’re heading south to the Alabama Gulf Coast this week for the 41st Annual Shrimp Festival, the weather is looking great. The event is held in Gulf Shores every year. You can see the forecast above is nearly perfect for an event like this. This Festival gets kicked off on Thursday and lasts through Sunday. There is no chance of rain in Gulf Shores this week or weekend, so any plans should go without problems. Look for partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies through the weekend.
