Nice Weather, Then Cool! Wednesday Afternoon Forecast Update 4pm
October 3, 2012 3 Comments
Good Wednesday afternoon to you! I had a great time speaking to Arcadia Elementary’s Kindergarten classes this morning. I’ll have video on WVUA-TV news at 5, 6 and 10pm.
The forecast package today has included another very nice day, with a mostly sunny sky and temperatures reaching the upper 70s. Humidity remains low today, so there are no issues with muggy air or rain. Skies will remain mostly clear to partly cloudy for the rest of the evening and tonight. A weak upper level low just west of Alabama will lift north northeast tonight and should pass far enough west of Alabama to keep any isolated showers out of the state. Temperatures will fall into the lower to middle 50s tonight. There could be some patchy areas of fog late tonight, but the risk looks pretty low of anything widespread.
Skies will remain mostly sunny on Thursday and Friday. Look for afternoon highs to reach the lower 80s both days with low humidity. By Friday, we’ll be watching a deep upper air trough develop north of town; in-fact, snow is likely for some towns across the high Plains and upper Rockies. This will also be the 1st big freeze across much of the northern US. We won’t see a freeze around here, but chilly weather is likely.
The cold front will arrive Saturday evening or Saturday night. Look for the risk of a passing shower ahead of the front, but the risk of rain is pretty low at this point. Highs will reach the low 80s on Saturday with a mix of sun and clouds. A howling north wind will take over on Sunday, with highs in the middle 60s. Skies will become mostly sunny through the day on Sunday and remain sunny through Monday and Tuesday. A surface high will slip in from the northwest on Sunday night and Monday. This will allow temperatures to really chill down into the lower 40s both Sunday and Monday nights. A few upper 30s are possible in our cooler towns to the north. Highs will warm into the lower 70s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
If you have plans to Talladega this weekend to the big races, look for a quick change in weather over the weekend. Saturday will be pleasant and partly sunny. Temperatures on Saturday will reach the lower 80s. We can expect a brisk north wind to take over on Sunday, with a passing sprinkle. Highs will struggle to reach the middle 60s.
