Nice Weather Trend Ahead… Monday Afternoon Forecast Update 4pm
October 1, 2012 Leave a comment
Good Monday afternoon! As of 4pm, there’s still a tornado watch for extreme east Alabama, where the conditions are still favorable for a small tornado. That being said, there are no active storms in that part of the state. As stable air quickly takes over from the west, the threat should be completely out of east Alabama in the next hour or so. We’re in the stable air across west Alabama. Behind the cold front, the air is stable, but there’s still lots of clouds. A layer of moisture above the surface is wrapping around the surface low and moving into western Alabama. This will continue through tonight and early on Tuesday. I wouldn’t be shocked if a stray shower or two works across west and central Alabama sometime tonight or early tomorrow.
Many spots picked up a nice soaking over the weekend. I got 2.00″ at my house in Northport between Saturday and this afternoon. Melissa McAteer reports 3.45″ in Gordo (Pickens County). Barry Durand reports 2.05″ in Northport. Others picked up between 1 and 4 inches.
We’ll notice the quick shot of cooler air tonight, tomorrow and Tuesday night. Look for highs to struggle to reach 70 on Tuesday. That’s partially due to extra clouds. Expect a gradual decrease in clouds through the day, with afternoon sun likely. Mid 70s are possible south of HWY 80 for highs tomorrow. With skies going clear, temperatures will drop fast Tuesday night. Look for lows to reach the low 50s or upper 40s across all of west and central Alabama.
Sunny skies will take over on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. You’ll notice warming temperatures under the sunny sky, with highs returning to the lower 80s. Humidity should remain low through Friday, so low 80s will still feel nice. Lows at night will remain in the 50s.
A second shot of cooler air looks to take over this weekend, with highs returning into the 70s. We may have a hard time reaching 70 on Sunday, as the core of the cooler air gets closer to Alabama. I can’t rule out a few showers ahead of the front sometime on Saturday or Sunday, but I don’t see a heavy rain event as of now.
