Nice Weather Continues… Thursday Afternoon Forecast Discussion – 4pm Update
September 20, 2012 Leave a comment
Good Thursday afternoon to you! Many spots started off today rather chilly, with temperatures in the 40s across much of the area. The official low for Tuscaloosa was 51 degrees. The coolest spots occurred in Marion and Winston County, where temperatures dropped to the low and mid 40s. With a good supply of sunshine, temperatures were able to warm nicely; in-fact, most spots have reached the lower 80s as of 4pm.
Temperatures will gradually fall as we approach sunset this evening. We’ll reach the lower 70s by 7pm under a clear sky. Most spots will fall into the upper 40s to lower 50s after midnight and around daybreak tomorrow morning.
The trough across the central and eastern US is really starting to lift out, so a moderating trend is expected on Friday and Saturday, but another spoke of energy will work around the base of the trough, sending another cold front our way. Since the air is so dry, I don’t expect any rain with the front. Skies will remain sunny on Friday, but we’ll call for a partly cloudy sky on Saturday as the front arrives. Temperatures will top out in the middle 80s on Friday and Saturday, with lows in the middle 50s.
The front will move south of Alabama on Sunday, so a refreshing airmass will take over the entire area. Look for highs to top out in the upper 70s on Sunday and Monday. Humidity will remain very low. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 40s by Sunday night and Monday night. At this point, there is no risk of rain for the weekend and much of next week.
Alabama takes on Florida Atlantic on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. We can expect a nice gameday, with a partly cloudy sky. At this point, I don’t see any signs of rain for the game. Kickoff is at 4pm, so if your seat is on the east side of the stadium, it will be very mild during the game. If your seat is on the west side of the stadium, you’ll be sitting in the cool shade for the game. Temperatures will start in the lower 80s at kickoff and fall into the middle 70s by the end of the game.
Auburn takes on LSU at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn on Saturday. Kickoff is at 6pm; look for a mostly sunny sky with temperatures in the upper 70s at kickoff. There is no risk of rain during that game.
