Nice Start to the Weekend…Rain Likely…Cooler Ahead… Friday Afternoon Forecast Discussion – 4pm

Good Friday afternoon to you! We’re dealing with a mild summer day, with temperatures in the middle 80s across much of central and western Alabama. Skies remain partly cloudy across the entire area, but there is no rain on radar. If you have plans to the local high school football games this evening, expect rain free conditions. Temperatures will fall to 80 degrees around the 7pm kickoff and lower 70s at the 10pm end to the games. Conditions will feel a tad muggy, but dewpoints remain fairly low. Expect skies to remain partly cloudy through 7pm, and then become mostly clear after 7pm. Lows will fall into the lower 60s tonight.

A cold front is lagging northwest of Alabama this afternoon, but the front will remain north of our area through the first half of the weekend. As moisture levels rise over the weekend, the airmass will become rather muggy on Saturday and Sunday. Look for dry weather on Saturday, with a high near 86. The risk of rain is less than 10% on Saturday, but a passing shower can’t be ruled out. A small scale trough will move into the state by Sunday evening. Look for clouds to increase during the day, with a good chance of showers or storms by late evening and overnight Sunday. Rain chances will remain high through the day on Monday. Many spots may pick up 1 or 2 inches of rain Sunday night and on Monday. Skies will become cloudy at times late Sunday and on Monday. Highs will remain in the 70s all day on Monday and Tuesday due to the cloudiness and showers. You’ll certainly need the rain gear late Sunday through Tuesday. While rain chances are lower on Tuesday, I still think a few showers will move across the area.

A strong cold front will dive through Alabama Tuesday evening. As a deep upper air trough forms acorss the central US, the trough will introduce cooler air across Alabama late Tuesday, on Wednesday and on Thursday; in-fact, we’ll notice some of the coolest air so far this season arriving by mid-week. Highs will struggle to reach the middle 70s both Wednesday and Thursday, with lows in the middle 50s Tuesday night. Upper 40s are possible on Wednesday night! If you like the fall weather, you’ll love the forecast for Tuesday evening through Thursday. Skies will become sunny Tuesday evening.

Football Saturday: Alabama takes on the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville on Saturday. Kickoff is at 2:30pm. You’ll need the rain gear for that game, as there’s a good chance of showers at any point. Skies will remain mostly cloudy through the game, with a temperature hovering near 70 for much of the game.

Auburn takes on Louisiana Monroe in Auburn on Saturday. Kickoff is at 11:21am. Expect a mostly sunny sky for that game, with no issues with rain. Temperatures will remain in the low 80s for the game.
