Nice Weather, Then Some Storms… Wednesday Afternoon Forecast – 5pm

Good Wednesday afternoon! Today continues the stretch of nice conditions, with highs in the lower 80s and a mixture of sun and clouds. Humidity remains pretty low today, but humidity levels are gradually climbing. Skies remain partly cloudy through this evening, as temperatures gradually fall into the middle 70s by 7pm and upper 60s at 10pm.

A sharp upper air trough will dig into the upper midwest on Thursday and Friday. The trough will send a cold front into the south, but model data has trended much drier with the front’s arrival; plus, the front will likely stall out north of Alabama. Since the lifting feature will remain north of the area, I don’t expect much in the way of rain. A few showers are possible on Friday and Saturday, but the chance of organized thunderstorms looks low at this point. Skies will remain partly cloudy to partly sunny for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Highs will continue to approach the middle 80s through the weekend, with lows in the lower 60s.

If you have outdoor events planned for Friday and Saturday, keep the rain gear around, but many spots won’t get a drop. Rain chances are at 10% both days. As an upper air disturbance moves around the base of the trough, that will send some energy or rising air into Alabama. Rain chances will increase on Sunday and Monday. While rain chances stand at 30 to 40%, I may have to bump up rain chances as new forecast data comes in. Skies will become mostly cloudy late in the weekend and early next week.

Here’s a look at the tropics. Tropical Storm Nadine has formed in the Atlantic, but there is no threat to land. That storm will become a hurricane, but will soon turn out to sea.
