Nice Weather Continues…Monday Afternoon Forecast Discussion – 4:14pm Update
September 10, 2012 Leave a comment
Good Monday afternoon! How about another nice fall-like day, with ample sunshine and comfortable temperatures. The lack of humidity is really keeping conditions pleasant. Many spots started off in the middle to upper 50s this morning. We’ll take that for early September. The deep eastern US trough is in no hurry to leave, so the nice weather will continue for much of the week.
With dry air and clear skies in place, look for a quick drop in temperatures around and after sunset. Many spots will fall into the upper 70s at 7pm and middle 60s by 10pm. Most spots will finally bottom off in the upper 50s by daybreak Tuesday morning. Skies will remain sunny to mostly sunny through our Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. A surface high nearby will gradually pull northeast of Alabama later in the week. This will allow Gulf moisture to return into our area as a south or southeast wind develops.
A new shortwave trough will swing across the midwest on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This will send a weak cold front into west and central Alabama. Look for a few scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop near and ahead of the front Friday afternoon and on Saturday. Highs will continue in the 80s through the weekend, with lows warming into the lower to middle 60s late in the week and over the weekend.
The tropics continue very active. We’ve got Tropical Storm Leslie, Hurricane Michael and a tropical low. There’s a good chance the new tropical low will become a tropical storm tonight or tomorrow. None of these storms look to impact the US, as they all turn out to sea.
