Two Hurricanes and A Tropical Low… Thursday Update 4:45pm

Good Thursday afternoon to you! Here’s a quick tropical update. We’re watching 3 systems in the tropics at this point. Two systems are hurricane and one is the remnant low of Isaac.
Hurricane Leslie is a category 1 storm and is slowly moving towards Bermuda. There’s a good chance Leslie will impact the island over the weekend. The storm will then turn northeast into the open Atlantic.
Hurricane Michael became a major, category 3 hurricane earlier today, but that storm has since weakened into a category 2 storm. Michael is moving out to sea and will be no impact to the US.
We’re also watching the remnant low of Isaac this afternoon. There’s a chance it will redevelop into a tropical storm over the next day or two, then move east into Florida. At this point I don’t expect any issues out of the Gulf Low across our area. Here’s a statement from the National Hurricane Center:
AN ELONGATED AREA OF LOW PRESSURE CENTERED ABOUT 75 MILES SOUTHEAST OF THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER HAS BEEN DRIFTING SOUTHWARD DURING THE PAST FEW HOURS. SINCE THE SHOWER ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH THE LOW REMAINS POORLY ORGANIZED…THE AIR FORCE RECONNAISSANCE MISSION SCHEDULED FOR TODAY HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO TOMORROW. THERE IS STILL POTENTIAL FOR SOME DEVELOPMENT DURING THE NEXT DAY OR SO BEFORE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS BECOME UNFAVORABLE. THIS WEATHER SYSTEM HAS A MEDIUM CHANCE…40 PERCENT…OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.
