Mild, Some Storms, Nice Weather… Lots of Weather Changes – Thursday Afternoon Forecast Update 5pm

Good Thursday afternoon to you! It’s been a mild and muggy day today due to extra sun and high dewpoints. A few spots near and northwest of Tuscaloosa dealt with some showers before lunch, but that led to afternoon sun across our entire area. Look for conditions to remain dry and mild through sunset. I can’t rule out a passing storm, but mostly dry and mild conditions will remain dominant. Temperatures will fall into the upper 70s by 8pm and middle 70s at 10pm tonight. Lows will gradually settle into the lower 70s by early Friday morning.
A deep trough will form across the eastern US on Friday and Saturday. The trough will send a cold front into our area on Saturday. If you have events planned outdoors for Friday, I think most of the day will be fine. The local high school football games should go without a rain drop. While there’s a chance of a passing storm or two, many stadiums will stay dry.
Saturday will be the trouble day in terms of outdoor events and rain chances. As the cold front arrives in western Alabama, you’ll notice an increase in clouds and scattered storms starting during the early morning hours. Rain chances will continue to increase through the morning and midday hours on Saturday. While it will not rain all day, you will need to keep the rain gear handy. If you’re going to the Alabama vs Western Kentucky game in Tuscaloosa, take the poncho. While it will not be a solid rain for hours and hours, a good 30 minute downpour or two is possible at any point. Model data has sped up the front a bit, so there’s a chance we’ll start to dry out around game time. Kickoff is at 2:39pm on Saturday. I would take the poncho incase there’s a storm or two lingering behind the front. We will all go dry late Saturday afternoon or Saturday evening.
A nice and refreshing airmass will take over on Sunday and Monday. Look for temperatures to struggle to reach the lower 80s with a north breeze both days. Overnight lows will reach the lower 60s Saturday night and upper 50s on Sunday night.
We’ll catch a dry break for a few days, with mostly sunny skies and comfortable conditions Sunday through Tuesday. At this point, I don’t see any rain chances on Sunday through Thursday.
