Some Storms Today…Severe Weather Possible on Friday… – Thursday Update 3:40pm

Good Thursday afternoon to you! As of 3:30pm, scattered storms over west Alabama are weakening. As afternoon heating took over, storms developed in some spots around and just after lunch. Since we’re close to a boundary over southwest Alabama and east Mississippi, the higher concentration of storms has been over southwest Alabama and east Mississippi. These storms are starting to lose their punch across the area now. Many of you will not see rain today, but if you missed out on the rain, there’s a good chance of a soaking on Friday. Notice the radar image above… Severe storms are developing west of our area, over east Mississippi. These storms are building to the west and away from our area. The risk of rain will mainly remain over south and west Alabama through Sunset, but a stray storm or two is possible anywhere across central Alabama; again, most spots northeast of Tuscaloosa will stay dry today.
Above is the risk of severe weather tomorrow (Friday). The Storm Prediction Center has placed a slight risk of severe storms over much of our area; this includes areas north of HWY 80. As a cold front moves in from the northwest, the risk of a few severe storms will move in. While there is a risk of severe weather, issues should remain pretty scattered to isolated. Damaging winds and hail will be the main threat with tomorrow’s storms. Rain chance is high on Friday, so many of you will get a good soaking. Don’t expect a solid all day type of rain, but you will need the rain gear at times through the day. Skies will remain mostly cloudy on Friday, so temperatures will have a hard time reaching the upper 80s.
