Scattered Storms Across Parts of West and Southwest Alabama… Thursday Update 1:55pm
August 16, 2012 Leave a comment
Good Thursday afternoon to you! Much of central Alabama is dry at this 1pm hour, but big storms are developing in parts of our area. Strong storms are moving east across parts of Sumter, Marengo, Greene, Hale and Tuscaloosa County. These cells are below severe limits for now, but I wouldn’t be shocked if a severe thunderstorm warning goes out for a storm or two near or southwest of Tuscaloosa. Damaging winds and hail would be the main concern with storms today, but the risk of severe weather will be very isolated. Most spots will stay dry today. If you live northeast of Tuscaloosa, your rain chance is at 20% for the rest of the day, but if you live southwest of Tuscaloosa, your rain chance is at 50%.
The old boundary across deep south Mississippi and Alabama yesterday is moving north. As this boundary moves into southwest Alabama, lift ahead of it is helping to kick off a few storms. Any storm that develops will produce lots of cloud to ground lightning. Use caution if outdoors. If you get rain in your area, it won’t last all that long.
Our entire area will deal with a good rain chance of Friday, as a cold front moves in from the northwest.
