Fair Weather Today and Wednesday… Active Storms Ahead – Tuesday Afternoon Forecast Update 4pm
August 14, 2012 Leave a comment
Good Tuesday afternoon to you! After a bumpy night lastnight, with numerous showers and storms across our area, conditions are starting to dry out this afternoon. Many spots picked up heavy rain totals; in-fact, my rain total in Northport was 1.80″. While severe weather issues were very isolated, there were some wind damage issues in spots. The worst damage we could fine happened in northern Tuscaloosa County, where several structures were damaged. The National Weather Service estimated wind of 60 mph in that area. Be sure to scroll down to an earlier post for damage pictures.
The storm system that brought the 2 rounds of storms yesterday and lastnight has moved out of the area. Storms are still ongoing over south Alabama, but our central and west Alabama counties are dry now. Skies have become partly cloudy to mostly sunny this afternoon, which is really drying things out a bit. Temperatures are rather hot, but it could be a lot hotter this time of the year. Expect temperatures to gradually cool into the lower 80s by 7pm and middle 70s at 10pm. There could be a little fog late tonight or early tomorrow morning, so allow a little extra drive time if needed.
We’re in a pretty active pattern, with another advancing trough on Thursday. This system will send a cold front into the deep south on Friday and Saturday. Lift ahead of the trough and front will allow a good chance of showers and storms on Friday and Saturday. Expect lots of clouds on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A few storms are possible as early as Thursday, but most spots will remain dry until Friday. We can expect a good soaking rain at times on Friday and Saturday, with embedded strong thunderstorms. Many spots could pick up a good 1 to 3 inches of rain on Friday and Saturday. The pattern is certainly unique for mid summer, but the eastern US trough and western US ridge will continue to place us under an active setup, with several storm systems possible at times. Due to the extra clouds and rain, temperatures will stay in the 80s on Friday and Saturday. There’s some hint of dry weather returning on Sunday and Monday.
