Watching Tropics Close…Wednesday Morning Update 9am
August 1, 2012 Leave a comment
Good Wednesday morning to you! We are watching with interest a tropical low in the central Atlantic. It continues to move west at 10 to 20 mph and is becoming better organized. The National Hurricane Center has a 60% chance of this system becoming a tropical storm within 48 hours. While there are still lots of questions on the future of the tropical low, the chance of it impacting the US is increasing.
Above is a look at our tropical models and where they take this system. A west to westnorthwest track will continue for the next 5 days, with a gradual bend to the northwest in 6 or 7 days. With a track like this, there’s a chance it could get into the Gulf of Mexico. That’s a long way out and could change a lot over the next few days, plus, this system may not make it that far. It all depends on the environment ahead of it. As new data comes in, we’ll continue to fine tune the forecast. If it were to move into the Gulf and impact our weather, it wouldn’t happen for another 8 to 10 days. Anotherwords, there’s a lot of time for a lot of change. Keep it here for updates.
