Lots of Storms Expected Today, Some Strong to Severe… Dry Weekend… Friday Midday Update 12pm

Good Friday Midday to you! Much of the morning has been rain-free, but big changes are happening as things heat up a bit. Lots of tiny storms have developed across all of Alabama, with the higher coverage of storms along and south of HWY 80 at this point. Expect the coverage of showers and storms to increase over the next couple of hours, with many spots getting a good downpour this afternoon and evening. It will not rain all day, as this activity will remain scattered. The cells today are moving east southeast at 20mph. I expect a good chance of showers and storms across all of central and west Alabama today.
The risk of severe weather is low today, but a few storms may reach strong to severe levels. Hail and damaging winds will be the main threat today, but severe weather issues will be very isolated. We need the rain, and many spots will get a soaking. Keep the rain gear handy through this evening, as a cold front moves in from the northwest. The front will bring the chance of rain through midnight tonight, then dry air will take over on Saturday and Sunday. Your weekend forecast is looking good, but it’s looking rather hot. Skies will become sunny on Saturday and Sunday.
