Scattered Storms Through The Weekend…Hot Next Week… Friday Afternoon Forecast – 5:15pm
July 20, 2012 Leave a comment
Good Friday afternoon to you! Much of the area dealt with scattered showers and storms this morning, but much of the area is dry this afternoon. Due to a deck of clouds and morning rain, the atmosphere has become a little more stable this afternoon. We are watching a band of storms develop along a cold front in Tennessee. These storms will reach parts of west and central Alabama later this evening and tonight. Some storms could produce isolated damaging winds and intense cloud to ground lightning, but the risk should remain fairly minor. We’ll keep an eye on radar trends this evening incase anything changes.
The risk of scattered showers and storms will continue through tonight, as a weakening cold front moves into north Alabama. The front will become stationary across north Alabama, so the risk of scattered storms will continue through Saturday, but the risk will gradually decrease over the weekend. While the best chance of storms will occur during the peak heating hours over the weekend, a few morning storms can’t be ruled out. Rain chance stands at 50% on Saturday and only 30% on Sunday. We will notice more sun each day over the next few days, so temperatures will gradually increase. Look for highs to reach the lower to middle 90s on Sunday and Monday, with middle to upper 90s for highs on Wednesday and Thursday. A deep tropical airmass will hang around the area through next week, so the mugginess will be noticed. Overnight lows will remain in the lower to middle 70s each night through the middle of next week.
There’s no major change in the forecast on Sunday through next Friday. Expect a partly cloudy sky, with a 30% risk of scattered, mainly afternoon storms each day. Most spots will remain rain free, but some spots will get a quick downpour.
I had a great time speaking to the kids at Hightown Church of God in Northport. They were a great group and a lot of fun! Look for video on WVUA News at 5, 6 and 10pm.
