A Few Strong to Severe Storms Possible Through Midnight…Friday Update 2:40pm

Good Friday afternoon to you! The Storm Prediction Center maintains a slight risk of severe storms across our area this afternoon, evening and early tonight. As a cold front moves in from the northwest, the risk of storms will increase this afternoon and evening. Some storms may become severe, with the risk of damaging winds and hail. Much of east and central Alabama is a little more stable this afternoon, due to morning storms and clouds. The best chance of severe weather this evening will occur near and west of Fayette to Tuscaloosa to Demopolis. The map above shows where the Storm Prediction Center may issue a severe thunderstorm watch soon.

Conditions in Mississippi are much more unstable at this hour, so the risk of severe storms is higher across the state line. Keep it here for updates, as some severe storms may work into west Alabama. Things are quiet for now, but I expect the radar to become more active in the next few hours, as instability increases. This is not a major threat of severe weather, but a few storms may try to get out of hand and produce damaging winds and hail. Keep in mind, any storm that develops stands the chance of producing intense cloud to ground lightning, so keep in mind lightning safety. I’ll have a new update later this afternoon.
