Rain In The Days Ahead…Monday Afternoon Forecast Update 5pm
July 16, 2012 Leave a comment
Good Monday afternoon to you! It’s been a hot day across our area, with temperatures reaching the middle 90s in many spots. Atleast there is some rain on radar, cooling isolated spots off. Birmingham is reporting 79 degrees as of 4pm due to a nearby thunderstorm. A few scattered storms will continue through sunset, but most of the activity will die out shortly after. If you don’t see rain today, temperatures will remain hot through sunset in your area. Temperatures will cool into the upper 80s at 7pm and lower 80s by 10pm. Look for skies to remain partly cloudy through tonight.
We are watching an upper air low and trough over the southeastern US coastline. This system is not tropical, but is producing numerous showers and storms over the state of North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The system is moving west northwest and will impact Alabama’s weather for much of the week and into the weekend. Look for the chance of rain to increase to 40% on Tuesday and 50% for Wednesday through Sunday. Skies will become partly cloudy to mostly cloudy at times by mid-week and into your weekend. It will not rain all day, and not all spots will get rain, but the chance is good for a downpour at your house. The best chance of storms through the rest of the week will occur during the afternoon hours, but storms can’t be ruled out at night or in the mornings. Temperatures will drop a tad each day this week, with middle 90s on Tuesday and lower 90s on Wednesday through Sunday. Overnight lows will fall into the lower 70s each night due to the high dewpoints. Conditions will feel very muggy over the next 5 to 7 days.
There is some hint at a weak cold front pushing into central Alabama over the weekend. If the weak front reaches our area, rain chances may increase more than forecasted at this point, so stay tuned for updates.
The beach forecast is looking fair to nice over the next 5 days. The risk of rain is at 40% Tuesday through Sunday along the Alabama Gulf Coast or Florida Panhandle. Storms will remain scattered along the coast, so don’t cancel your beach plans unless a major change happens. Skies will remain partly cloudy to mostly sunny on the coast.
