Scattered Storms Continue Through The Weekend and Next Week…Beach Forecast…Friday Eve Forecast Update – 10pm

Good Friday night to you! Much of the area dealt with scattered storms this afternoon and evening, but most storms have gone to bed for the night. A weak upper air disturbance moved through the area this afternoon, sparking the development of storms. While some spots dealt with a beneficial rain, other spots didn’t get much at all, if any. Another weak disturbance is moving into east Alabama tonight, so I can’t rule out a few showers and storms tonight, mainly east of Interstate 65. Otherwise, many of us will remain rain free tonight.

The weekend forecast will include the risk of scattered, mainly afternoon storms. Highs will reach the upper 90s on Saturday and Sunday, with a mostly sunny sky. Skies will become partly sunny during the afternoon hours, as the surface heats up and the air begins to rise. Showers and storms will develop across parts of the area over the weekend. Rain chances hold at 40% both Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows will remain in the lower to middle 70s. Much like today, storms will move from east to west tomorrow due to the position of the upper air ridge to our north. The ridge will move west early next week, and upper air heights will drop here. This means we’ll notice slightly cooler temperatures, with highs in the lower to middle 90s. Also, scattered storms will become a little more numerous early next week.

As the ridge breaks down a bit, look for a weak cold front to move into the south. The front will get close enough to Alabama to enhance the risk of storms. While the best chance of rain over the weekend and early next week will occur during the afternoon, storms are possible at any point. If you didn’t see rain this week, there’s a good chance you will pick up a heavy storm at some point over the weekend and/or early next week, as rain chances continue fairly high. It will not rain all day or night. Storms will quickly pass your area, so don’t cancel your outdoor plans. Many spots won’t get rain each day.

The beach forecast for the Alabama Gulf Coast is looking nice over the next 5 days, with highs around 90 and lows in the lower 70s. There is a risk of scattered storms each day along the coast, but the storms will come and go and won’t last long.
