Few Morning Storms, Scattered Storms Possible Through The Weekend… Thursday Updae 7:20am

Good Thursday morning! A few storms have developed on radar early this morning in northwest Alabama and northeast Mississippi. These storms are moving south southwest at 10 to 20 mph. As of 7:20am, scattered storms are moving across northwest Pickens, Fayette, Lamar, Marion and Winston County. The morning storms are due to the very tropical airmass in place, plus, a small scale disturbance moving around the eastern edge of the ridge.

Scattered storms will likely increase in coverage this morning and throught the afternoon hours as heating takes place. The disturbance is just enough to get a few storms kicked off this morning, but as temperatures rise, instability will increase and so will the storm coverage. Storms will remain hit or miss, so I don’t expect everyone to get rain. We’ve been watching rain fall all around Tuscaloosa and Northport over the past few days, and not a drop has reached both cities. Some spots haven’t got anything, while others have got lots of rain. The risk of rain is at around 40% today through the weekend and early next week. At some point, everyone will get a good rain as these storms drift through our area. If you don’t get rain today, you still have a good shot at rain any day this week. Just like this morning, a few storms could occur at any point, day or night. The best chance of thunderstorms over the next 5 days will happen between lunch and 9pm. Everyone in west and central Alabama has the same 40% chance of scattered storms.

Temperatures will remain hot, with highs between 97 and 100 today through Monday. We can expect a mostly sunny sky, becoming partly sunny during the afternoon and evening hours.
