Monday Evening Forecast Updated…. 10:35pm Monday

Since there were so many severe weather updates this evening, I decided to re-post my forecast discussion I posted early this afternoon… Here’s what’s ahead.

As a cold front moves into our area, there’s a chance of additional storms on Tuesday and Tuesday evening as conditions heat up after lunch. Showers and storms are likely at any point on Tuesday, so keep the rain gear handy. The risk of severe weather is low, but we will have to watch to see if a complex of storms develop and move into the area sometime during the day. If that happens, the risk of wind damage will increase. Stay tuned.. Temperatures will top out in the upper 80s for highs on Tuesday.

Dry air will slowly work in from the north on Wednesday and Thursday. The cold front will become stationary somewhere around the HWY 80 corridor. The risk of a passing shower or storm is still possible for areas south of Tuscaloosa on Wednesday and Thursday, but the risk of rain is pretty low. Skies will become partly cloudy to mostly sunny on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Look for highs to reach the lower 90s through the weekend.

Your weekend forecast is looking pretty nice, but it will be hot. Look for skies to remain partly cloudy, with the risk of a passing, mainly afternoon storm. Most spots will remain rain-free over the weekend. At this point, there are no signs of organized thunderstorms for your weekend plans.

The beach weather has been a mess over this past weekend. If you have a trip planned along the coast this week or into the weekend, rain chances will start to drop. Look for the risk of scattered storms each day, with the risk of rain at 40% on Wednesday through Saturday. Highs will remain in the upper 80s, with lows in the 70s. Sky conditions will remain partly cloudy through the weekend.

Severe Threat Moving Southeast…Weather Update 8:15pm Monday

Good Monday evening to you! What a way to end the day, with a damaging complex of storms moving across our state. There are numerous reports of wind damage across our area, with winds reported between 60 and 80 mph along the leading edge of the line. The good news is that once the severe storms move into your area, the damaging winds and intense lightning will only last 25 to 35 minutes. After that, light to moderate rain will continue on and off for a couple of hours.

As of 8:14pm, the leading edge of the line was in Livingston to Greensboro to Centreville to Birmingham. This will continue southeast and will die out by 10pm in our south and east counties. Places like Linden and Demopolis will likely get some strong winds and heavy rain as the line continues to move southeast at 50 mph. That area will be impacted between 8:45 and 9:30pm… Stay away from window as the storms move through your area! They won’t last long.

The severe weather threat is over for cities along and northwest of a line from Giger (North Sumter Co) to Tuscaloosa to Warrior (North Jefferson Co). The threat will continue to end from northwest to southeast as the line moves at a fast clip.
