A good Tuesday afternoon to you! It’s been a very nice day, with ample sunshine and mild temperatures. Highs have reached the middle 70s across much of the area, with lower 70s north and east of Tuscaloosa. An area of high pressure is positioned over the northern Gulf of Mexico is giving much of the state a breezy west wind. The wind will switch around to the south on Wednesday, and moist air will advect inland. As higher dewpoints move into the area, look for lows to modify quickly. Lows will fall to 50 tonight, but lower to middle 60s are likely each night for the rest of the week and into the weekend.
A ridge of high pressure is moving east and will bring warmer temperatures to the deep south over the next few days. The deep eastern US trough is sliding east of Alabama now and will continue to shift eastward. Highs will reach the middle 80s on Wednesday through Saturday. As moisture levels rise, clouds will increase. We will continue to enjoy partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies through Friday, but expect a few additional clouds each day.
The 1 year anniversary of the historic tornado outbreak is happening on Friday, April 27th. This day has a huge meaning in many of our lives, as many of us were significantly affected by the tornadoes that day. With outdoor events happening on the 1 year mark, the forecast that day is important. Look for hot and mild conditions on Friday. Skies will remain partly cloudy, but I don’t expect any rain on Friday at this point.
The airmass will become very moist and mild over the weekend. This will give us a summer patter, when a stray shower or storm will become possible. Rain chances will arrive Saturday through Tuesday of next week. The chance of rain is low, but an isolated afternoon storm is possible.
