Cold Air Takes Over! Cool Weekend, Warmer Next week.. Friday Midday Update – 12pm Update

All severe weather issues are over for most all of Alabama at this midday hour. The cold front has passed Montgomery and some severe weather issues have been reported around the Montgomery and Troy area. There were no severe weather warnings in central and west Alabama due to a strong cap and low instability values. The higher instability has remained over south Alabama, and that’s just where a few issues were. Even there, only minor damage has been reported so far.

Cold air has taken over all of central and west Alabama, with a strong northwest wind. The pressure gradient is still very strong across our state, so winds will remain high through this evening. Winds will start to ease up tonight and on Saturday. While the wind will continue through Saturday, winds will fall into the 5 to 10mph range. As an area of high pressure moves in on Sunday, we’ll notice calm winds and nice conditions. Lows will fall into the lower 30s tonight and Saturday night. Highs will remain in the 50s through Saturday. Lower 60s are likely on Sunday as the cold airmass begins to modify.

An upper level disturbance will move across the northern Gulf tonight and tomorrow. This will continue to bring some extra clouds through Saturday, but clouds will break up at times. Sunshine will return in full force on Sunday.

A nice warming trend takes over on Monday and Tuesday. Look for highs to reach the upper 60s to lower 70s next week. Rain will also return at times early next week. I’ll have more details this afternoon in my evening forecast update.
