Warm Thursday…Few Severe Storms…Cooler Weekend. Wednesday Evening Forecast Update – 10:30 PM

Good evening! The rest of our Wednesday night will be fine in terms of severe weather. Instability levels are dropping, and the upper air disturbance responsible for a few isolated storms is moving east of the area. A stray shower or two is possible tonight and on Thursday, but many spots will remain dry. Another storm system is approaching from the northwest tonight. That system is a big stronger and will move in Thursday night.
We’ve been watching for a risk of severe storms Thursday night for several days now. Fortunately, forecast data has changed a bit and the threat is looking fairly low at this point. That being said, there is a chance of severe weather between 6pm Thursday and 6am Friday. The Storm Prediction Center continues a slight risk for all of central Alabama. This will include the threat of damaging winds, hail and an isolated tornado. All threat levels are low, but they still need to be watched. Remain severe weather alert through Thursday night incase a tornado warning is issued for your area. I expect a squall line to move through the state during the overnight hours, beginning in west Alabama as early as 6pm and ending as late as 6am in east Alabama. The event will be pretty short lived for your town, as the squall line will likely be thin and progress fairly quickly. Once the squall line passes your area, the threat will end as cooler air takes over from the northwest. The line should weaken a bit as it moves east across the state. Instability will decrease through the night, and the best upper air dynamics will shift well north of Alabama.
Temperatures could still reach 60 on Friday, with a breezy northwest wind. Afternoon sun is likely on Friday. Lows will easily fall below freezing Saturday and Sunday morning. Highs will stay in the 50s all day on Saturday. An upper air disturbance will bring some extra cloud cover on Saturday, but the rain should remain well south of the area.
A quick warming trend takes over next week, with highs in the lower 60s on Sunday and upper 60s on Monday and Tuesday. Clouds will increase ahead of another active storm system. Showers and storms are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will reach the 70s on Wednesday. Lows will warm into the lower 50s Monday and Tuesday night.
