Dry This Morning, Lots of Rain Later Today and Tonight… Saturday Update 11:45am

Good Saturday to you! If you have outdoor plans or some yard work, you better get a start on it. Lots of rain is moving this way out of Mississippi. A slow moving cold front is crossing the Mississippi River now, and a band of moderate to heavy rain is slowly moving east with it. There are a few strong storms on the leading edge of the rain mass, but I don’t expect any severe weather issues around here. While a thunderstorm or two is expected along the line, everything should stay below severe limits. We’ll keep an eye on the radar.
Much of the morning has been dry, but that will gradually change from northwest to southeast as the rain reaches Alabama. Moderate rain is falling in parts of Marion and Winston County as of 11:45am. Look for the rain to reach the Tuscaloosa and Birmingham areas sometime after 3pm and the Demopolis area sometime after 4pm. Rain totals will range between 1 and 2 inches, so some minor river flooding is possible late in the weekend and early next week. The ground is very wet, so it won’t take much to cause the rivers to rise.
The rain will stick around for much of the evening and overnight hours, but should end quickly Sunday morning. Look for a little afternoon sun to return on Sunday as well.
Temperatures will get a bit cooler first thing next week, with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s on Monday and Tuesday. Lows will fall well into the 30s.
