Monday Afternoon Forecast Update – 5:20 PM

A good Monday to you! After a nice weekend, our weather continues very nice on this Monday. Although we had more clouds than sun today, temperatures still got very warm for this time of the year. In-fact, highs reach the upper 70s in Tuscaloosa and lower 80s in the Montgomery area. Skies will gradually become cloudy tonight, with a few showers possible between 10pm and 9am tomorrow morning. The good upper air support is staying well to the north of Alabama, so I don’t expect much rain in our area.

Temperatures will cool slightly on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the middle to upper 60s. Sunshine will quickly return by Tuesday afternoon, but clouds will gradually increase on Wednesday. Temperatures at night will be pretty chilly on Wednesday morning, as we reach into the 30s.

Highs are back in the 70s on Thursday, as warm air advection gets kicked in ahead of our next cold front. Winds will get rather gusty ahead of Thursday’s cold front. The front should push through our area by daybreak Friday morning. As of now, it doesn’t look like any cold air will make it in behind the front, as temperatures will only cool off into the upper 60s. Rain will end early in the day on Friday. We’re watching very close for the threat of severe storms. As of now, I don’t see this being a major severe weather outbreak, but instability will be lacking. This means that storms will stay just below severe limits. Any changes in instability could mean for a threat of severe weather, so we’ll have to keep a close eye on this setup.

Warmer air takes over again by the weekend, with highs back in the lower 70s on Saturday and Sunday. A disturbance moves through on Sunday and Monday, which could bring a few showers with it. A much more vigorous system moves in early next week. Data is hinting at a big severe weather threat then, but that’s more than 7 days out, so I’ll keep the severe weather wording out of the forecast for now. I’ll update the forecast for you as we get closer to it.

Be sure to join me at 6 and 10 tonight on WVUA-TV! Have a great day!
